Disclaimer
This page sets out the limits of what we publish and what you should do with it. It is short because the substance sits elsewhere: how the reporting is done is on our editorial standards page, and what happens when we get something wrong is in our corrections policy. Last updated: August 2026.
General information, not professional advice
Everything here is journalism written for a general reader. It is not financial, legal, medical, tax or professional advice, and nothing on this site creates a professional relationship between you and anyone on this desk.
The specific versions matter more. A box-office figure, or a story about a studio’s finances, is not investment guidance. A report on a court order is a report on that order and not an opinion about your case. A note that a player received a fitness clearance is not a medical statement about anybody. A review says how one handset behaved in our hands over the weeks we had it, which is not a promise about the unit you buy. Where a decision of yours turns on any of it, speak to somebody qualified and paid to be responsible for the answer.
Right on the day we published it
We check what we publish and we say where it came from. That is a standard of work rather than a guarantee of perfection, and we make no warranty that a page is complete, current, or fit for a particular purpose.
News dates faster than most writing. A collections figure gets revised, a case is decided, a squad changes on the morning of a match, a product ships with different specifications from the launch slide. Every piece carries a publication date and, where we changed it, an update note, and those dates are there to be used. Where we are still waiting on something, the piece says so instead of writing around the gap.
What the labels on our pages mean
Reporting carries no label here, because reporting is the default. Analysis is tagged as analysis and means a writer with a beat drawing a conclusion from facts we have shown you. Opinion carries an argument and the name of whoever is making it. Reviews describe what we watched or tested, and under what conditions.
A conclusion in an analysis or opinion piece is a view, and a view is arguable by design. Publishing a contributor’s argument means we thought it worth reading, which is not the same as agreeing with it. The facts inside such a piece meet the same accuracy standard as anything else here, and are correctable the same way.
Links, embeds, and media we did not make
We link out constantly, to court orders, official filings, another outlet that broke a story, and the original upload behind a clip going around. That is how you check us. It is not an endorsement of the destination, and what a third-party site publishes or collects once you arrive is outside our control.
Photographs, video, stills, posters and social posts we did not make are used under licence from a rights holder, or as brief attributed quotation where the law allows, with credit given. An embed loads from the platform’s servers and can be edited or deleted by whoever posted it, with no change on our side. If you hold rights in something here and think we used it wrongly, our copyright and DMCA page is the fastest route to a human.
Advertising, sponsorship and affiliate links
Advertising pays for the newsroom and is kept visibly apart from it. Display ads are ads. Commercial articles carry a permanent label at the top of the page naming who paid, in the same size as the type around the headline, and they never carry a reporter’s byline. An advertiser cannot buy a mention, a preview or a veto, and the terms are on our advertising page.
Where a link earns us a commission, the piece says so on the page rather than in a note at the bottom of the site. A commission does not change what a review concluded, does not decide which products get reviewed, and does not buy a recommendation. If a page leaves you unsure whether it is reporting or something somebody paid for, our labelling has failed and we want to be told.
What we are and are not liable for
Decisions taken on the strength of something you read here are yours. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from reliance on our content, from an error we later corrected, from a third-party site we linked to, or from the site being unavailable when you needed it. The liability terms in our terms of service apply to this page too.
None of that tries to exclude liability which cannot lawfully be excluded. We are not signing away responsibility for our own reporting, and we have never used this page as a reason to decline a correction. A disclaimer is not a substitute for getting it right.
