Aditya Rai Shares Aishwarya’s Quiet Raksha Bandhan Album

Brother Aditya Rai posted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s 2026 Raksha Bandhan pictures, a Rai-family ritual the public is reading as a Bachchan marriage clue.

Aditya Rai posted the Rai family’s Raksha Bandhan picture on 31 August, three days after the festival. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan stands beside him in white. Their mother, Vrinda Rai, sits with the children.

The caption is one word jammed together: “Rakshabandhan2026.” Sister-in-law Shrima Rai had already put up candid frames from the same room. Aishwarya’s own feed stayed quiet.

Aditya Rai Posted the Picture on Monday

The gathering itself fell on Friday. In Delhi the Delhi thread-ceremony window ran from 5:57 am to 9:48 am on 28 August, after Bhadra had ended before sunrise. The public photograph arrived later, from the sibling who almost never posts.

Aishwarya wore a white ethnic suit, hair open, sunglasses pushed onto her head. Aditya matched the slack mood in an off-white collared T-shirt and blue checked trousers. Shrima was in green and pink. Their sons, Vihaan and Shivansh, are in the frame with Aaradhya Bachchan, who turns 15 in November.

That is the whole published album: one natal house, one brother with a thin public trail, one line of text. It is also the picture the internet immediately tried to turn into a marriage dispatch.

The Same Family Frame as 2019

On 15 August 2019 Aishwarya posted the Rai living room herself. Aaradhya tied rakhi to Aditya’s sons. Vrinda was in those pictures too. The captions then ran long: “Family time,” and “LOVE Happy Raksha Bandhan ALWAYS.”

She also posted a second set that year from the Bachchan house, with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan. Two houses, two albums, both from her account. The 2026 still is the first house only, and it did not come from her.

RAKHI ALBUMS, SEVEN YEARS APART

Detail 2019 2026
Who posted Aishwarya, on her Instagram Aditya on 31 August; Shrima around the festival
Rai-house frame Yes, with Aaradhya tying rakhi to the boys Yes, same people in one room
Bachchan-house album Yes, a separate post the same day None in the posts that circulated this week
Caption style Long blessing lines One compacted hashtag

A Rai-house rakhi picture is old behaviour. What moved is the byline. She has barely used social media except for airport sightings and Cannes, so the festival record now sits on her brother’s grid.

A Seaman Produced His Sister’s Film

Aditya is an engineer in the Merchant Navy and has given almost no interviews since his one pass through Hindi films. In January 2003 he was 32 and anxious about opening weekend. He had sailed for five years, come to Mumbai in 2000 for an exam, and started tagging along to her sets because he had hours to fill.

He met Shabbir Boxwala on those visits. They formed Target Films with restaurateur Suresh Bhandary and made Dil Ka Rishta, released on 17 January 2003, with Aishwarya as Tia Sharma. Vrinda co-wrote the story. The film was produced by Aditya Rai with Kumar Sadhuram Taurani for Tips Industries. Naresh Malhotra directed. Arjun Rampal and Priyanshu Chatterjee co-starred.

FROM SHIP TO ONE CREDIT

  1. Around 1995 to 2000: Sails as a merchant navy engineer for five years.
  2. 2000: Comes to Mumbai for an exam, follows Aishwarya onto film sets, and gets interested in how a shoot actually runs.
  3. 2000 to 2002: Teams with Boxwala and Bhandary as Target Films and puts Dil Ka Rishta on the floor, with Vrinda on the story.
  4. 15 January 2003: Tells an interviewer he wants a professional set even though the lead is his kid sister and the writer is his mother.
  5. 17 January 2003: The film opens. He does not build a producer slate after it.
  6. 31 August 2026: He is the one who publishes the family Rakhi still.

He worked hard, in that old interview, to keep the family out of the syntax. Vrinda was “Mrs Rai.” Aishwarya was “she.” People had been using him since school as a door to his sister, and he was tired of it. She had already warned him off the trade.

Dil Ka Rishta is very close to my family. I was interested in joining the industry, but she cautioned me it was not an easy place to work, and that the work would not be a bed of roses.

Aditya Rai, co-producer of Dil Ka Rishta, to Rediff, 15 January 2003

He said the merchant navy had taught him discipline, and that the film felt strange because he was student and manager at once. He also said he was fine being the lesser-known sibling. “She is a huge star and may soon work in Hollywood, while I am starting in the industry. I am okay with it.” He started, released one title, and went back to a life with almost no media. The 2026 post is what that choice looks like on a festival Friday: he still holds the private camera.

She told him the industry would be not an easy place to work. Twenty-three years later he is the relative who can put her in a room without a stylist caption.

Why Abhishek Is Not in the Picture

A husband’s absence from a brother’s rakhi photograph is being treated as the news. It is a weak place to look for him. Raksha Bandhan in this family has a maternal address. The person the thread is tied on, in these pictures, is Aditya.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya married on 20 April 2007. Split talk has followed them for two years, fed by separate red-carpet arrivals and a stretch of missing joint outings. He has called that chatter untrue. In January they were photographed together in New York, then at Mumbai airport in black, with Aaradhya. A brother’s festival still does not cancel those pictures, and it does not confirm a split either.

WHAT WE KNOW

  • The 2026 frame: Aishwarya, Aditya, Shrima, Vrinda, Aaradhya, Vihaan and Shivansh, posted by Aditya and Shrima, not by Aishwarya.
  • The 2019 pattern: She posted a Rai album and a separate Bachchan album on the same festival.
  • The marriage record: He has publicly rejected split rumours; they were seen together in January on a New York trip.

WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED

  • A new Bachchan album: No matching 2026 Jalsa set had circulated by 1 September; that is a posting gap, not proof of a fight.
  • A feud with Shrima: Online noise has long pulled Aditya’s wife into Aishwarya’s family talk. This week Shrima is the other person publishing the pictures.

Reading a natal rakhi room as a bulletin from Jalsa is how this family gets covered now. The picture cannot carry that weight. It can only show who tied the thread, and who was willing to hit share.

Aaradhya Sat With Her Nani

Aaradhya Bachchan, born 16 November 2011, is 14 in these pictures. She sits with Vrinda and the two cousins, which is the same geometry as 2019, when she was the small girl tying rakhi onto Vihaan and Shivansh. The festival has moved a generation along the same sofa.

She is also the only Bachchan in the published 2026 frame. That fact is being asked to mean more than a niece spending Shravan Purnima at her grandmother’s house, which is a very ordinary Indian Friday.

WHO STANDS IN THE 2026 STILL

  • Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: White ethnic suit, open hair, sunglasses on her head, standing with her brother.
  • Aditya Rai: Off-white collar, blue checks, the account that published the group picture.
  • Shrima Rai: Green and pink, first to post candid frames from the same gathering.
  • Vrinda Rai: Seated, with the three children pulled in around her.
  • Aaradhya, Vihaan, Shivansh: The cousin line that now does the rakhi work Aishwarya once did in the same room.

Aishwarya’s last film remains Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 in 2023, which took Rs 344.63 crore gross worldwide. In May she went to Cannes in an all-white structured suit by Cheney Chan. The Rakhi clothes are the opposite register: house clothes, glasses parked in the hair, no red carpet spine.

The Mother Who Co-Wrote Dil Ka Rishta

Vrinda is the still point in the photograph. In 2003 she was the writer Aditya would not call “Mum” in front of the trade press. In 2026 the children sit on her. The public life of this family keeps snapping back to her rooms even when the daughter is the most photographed woman in the frame.

Aditya once said he resented, as a child, how much attention the cute sister got, and that the rivalry was healthy. The 2026 post is the grown version of that truce. He never became the second star. He kept the camera, and on a delayed Monday he used it for the one ritual that has always belonged to this side of the family.

The album is now on his account, under a single mashed hashtag, with Shrima’s earlier candids beside it. That is the record of Raksha Bandhan in the Rai house this year. It looks like 2019’s first set. It was not posted by the star.

How Do Families Observe Raksha Bandhan?

A sister ties a rakhi thread on her brother’s wrist, applies tilak, and performs aarti; he offers a gift and a promise of protection, and the house shares sweets. The rite sits on the full moon of Shravan, and many homes wait until Bhadra has passed before they tie the thread, which is why city muhurats bunched in the early morning in 2026.
