Fortnite’s nostalgia-fueled OG mode is about to jump forward in time again, bringing players back to a pivotal moment in the game’s history. Starting March 25, Fortnite OG Season 3 will launch, revisiting the first major storyline event that captivated fans back in 2018: the arrival of the infamous meteor.
A Tease of What’s to Come
Epic Games has begun stirring excitement with a teaser that shows an astronaut helmet reflecting the Fortnite island—and the ominous meteor above it. Fans have spotted an unexpected detail in the teaser: a studded leather jacket, something no original Season 3 skins were known for. This small but intriguing detail has sparked speculation that a Metallica-inspired remix of the Rust Lord skin might be included.
The teaser, shared across Epic’s TikTok and Instagram, hints that Season 3’s OG experience may not be a straight copy of the past. Instead, players could see a remix of classic elements, blending old-school Fortnite with newer influences.
The OG Pass for Season 3
The first two OG Passes gave players remixed versions of classic skins from their respective seasons. Given that original Season 3 had a more developed battle pass with six skins—Rust Lord, Elite Agent, The Reaper (Fortnite’s take on John Wick), and three astronaut-themed characters—there’s plenty of room for creative reinterpretation.
Epic’s love for reimagining classic skins could also mean the return of Raven, one of the first true icon-level skins introduced in Season 3’s shop. With Epic’s well-documented enthusiasm for Midas variations, it wouldn’t be surprising if Raven gets a fresh look.
A Familiar Map with a Twist?
Season 3 of the original Fortnite didn’t shake up the island much compared to Season 2. But that doesn’t mean the map will stay static this time. The teaser prominently features the meteor, suggesting that Epic may be looking to fast-forward to the point where pieces of it were actively breaking off and damaging the island.
That period was a major turning point in Fortnite’s storytelling, setting the stage for the meteor’s dramatic crash into Dusty Depot in Season 4. Could Epic lean into that chaos earlier? Since OG mode hasn’t done mid-season map updates often, jumping straight into the destruction phase could keep things fresh.
Weapons and Gadgets Making a Comeback
A new season means a fresh set of weapons and items in the loot pool. While most of the current OG gear is expected to stay, several Season 3-era weapons and gadgets are poised to return:
- Hand Cannon – A high-damage pistol that rewards precise aim.
- Crossbow – A silent, infinite-ammo weapon that rarely saw major competitive use.
- Guided Missile – One of the most infamous weapons in Fortnite history, allowing players to manually steer a rocket toward their targets.
- Egg Launcher – A festive take on the Grenade Launcher, perfect for holiday-themed chaos.
- Port-a-Fort – A game-changer for quick defense, instantly spawning a small, multi-level fort.
- Remote Explosives – Perfect for setting up traps or taking down structures from a distance.
- Clingers – Sticky grenades that made for satisfying eliminations when placed correctly.
If Epic really wants to shake things up, they could tweak some of these items to behave differently, much like they have with past throwback seasons.
